Reflections On The Water

On Saturday, my family and I spent the day fishing at a nearby lake. There's something about being outdoors, surrounded by the beauty of God's creation, that truly speaks to my soul.
While we were looking for the perfect spot to catch crappies, I found myself captivated by the sight of the trees reflecting on the water, completely lost in the peaceful imagery of Luke 6:43-44.

A good tree doesn't produce bad fruit; on the other hand, a bad tree doesn't produce good fruit. For each tree is known by its own fruit.
As I lose myself in the reflection of the trees, a few thoughts come to mind:
Although I can't identify the type of trees just by their reflection, I can clearly tell they are trees.
Moving closer to the water’s edge would make the reflection clearer and sharper.
This got me thinking even deeper about our walks with Christ. What are our lives reflecting? Can others see us from afar and recognize, by the fruit we bear, that we love Jesus—even at a distance? Even if they can't identify every aspect of our fruit, can they still tell who we serve? As we moved closer to the shore, I was amazed at how much clearer the reflection of the trees became. It was a beautiful sight, and it reminded me of how God can use anything to speak to us.

"For each tree is known by its fruit."
While these trees weren’t fruit-bearing trees, the clearer reflection made me realize something: the closer people get to us, the more they should be able to see Christ reflected in our lives. Just like the trees' reflection, the closer we draw to God, the more distinct His presence and love should be in us. Our lives should be a reflection of Him—clear and unmistakable to those around us.
As we continue to walk with Christ, let’s strive to bear fruit that reveals who we serve, and allow His love and presence to be more clearly seen in us, drawing others closer to Him.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the beauty of Your creation and the way it speaks to our hearts. Help us to reflect Your love, grace, and truth in all that we do. May our lives bear fruit that points others to You, and may we draw closer to You each day, becoming a clearer reflection of Your goodness. Strengthen us to live in a way that honors You and draws others closer to Your heart. In Jesus' name, Amen.
And just for fun - here are some pictures of the fish my kids caught! :)
